Demystifying Cybercrime (For non-technical audiences)

The course aims to provide participants with a solid grasp of the fundamentals of modern internet and device technologies, demystifying the technical jargon and providing easy-to-grasp analogies and models for examining cybercrime cases.

The course is intended for staff across policing, at all levels, and with no technical background, who have a need to understand the evolving cyber threat.

No previous experience needed.

  • Understanding digital devices, networks, the internet of things, cryptography, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, the darknet, botnets, malware, ransomware and hacking
  • The cycle of a typical cybercrime from reconnaissance to monetisation
  • Motives and causes driving cyber-dependent and cyber-enabled crime
  • Techniques used by cybercrime threat actors
  • Evidential opportunities

Three-day trainer-led course.

This includes case studies, demonstrations and a practical online review of a potential target for social engineering.
