Open-Source Intelligence for Fraud Investigations – Foundation

The course aims to equip individuals with the essential skills to gather, analyse, and interpret publicly available information from the internet.  By studying open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques, participants learn how to effectively search and sift through vast amounts of online data, identifying relevant information and discerning its credibility.  OSINT can be used to uncover hidden connections, identify individuals or organisations, and track trends and developments.

The course is for those running an internet investigation or using the web to conduct due diligence checks in law enforcement, internal audit, fraud departments, or investigators in other sectors including, finance, retail, government, legal, insolvency.  This course is suitable for all with basic internet skills, regardless of experience.

No previous experience needed.

  • Search engines, meta browsers, deep web and people search techniques
  • Online identities, tracing domain name owners, origin of an email and conducting company and director checks
  • Web 2.0 – social networking, blogs and online gaming, geo-location tools for social media and photos
  • Building your investigation toolkit: a structured approach to gathering and organising data
  • Protecting your privacy when investigating online
